Personality: At first, Rachel was like any normal California girl; blonde, beautiful. She loved to shop, shop, shop. She could spot a sale a mile away, so don't try to stop her. She was also very into gymnastics, attending classes and competitions. She was mostly friendly with a bit of sarcastic sassiness to her, but she was like any other teenage girl. She liked to hang with her best friend and shop, and do gymnastics, and bicker with her sisters.
Then, one night, everything changed. She witnessed the death of an alien prince, gained the ability to morph any living creature she touched, and was thrown headfirst into a war with invading mind-controlling aliens. Suddenly, the little things weren't important anymore. Gymnastics, school, friends outside of the Animorphs, all began to fall away.
Rachel is possibly one of the people most effected by the war against the Yeerks. She went from being a regular girl, just short of being called a prep, to a a guerrilla soldier, and she took to it. She enjoyed it. It gave her a purpose. She's gung-ho, Xena, Warrior Princess. She literally has a "let's-do-it" attitude. Every time a new mission is outlined, her first words are "Let's do it." She'll throw herself headlong into any fight, regardless of the danger, sometimes regardless of orders. She's always willing to suggest the "bang-em-up, kick-butt, blow-it-up" options before any of the more subtle ones, and she's always first to volunteer for dangerous missions.
This has often led to clashes with Jake, her cousin and leader of their little group. They've had some pretty big fights over decisions that either of them has made. Rachel thinks Jake is too easy, too soft, sometimes, to be in his role. She doesn't always agree with his methods. Despite them being cousins, they're not actually very close, and she'd rather just do things on her own, thank you.
Despite all of her bravery and attitude, she has nightmares, she is scared. Scared of a lot of things. For her friends, for the world, for herself. And of herself. More than once now, she's had to face what she's become since the war started. She's possibly the only one who can say she might enjoy this war, that she's glad they met Elfangor that night, the only one who, given the choice of going back to a time without the threat of Yeerks, might actually say no. And that terrifies her.
Jake made her realize this when he thought a member of their team may have been killed by a traitor and he told Ax to "get Rachel." "We might need to do a terrible thing too. Get Rachel." Jake knew that Rachel would do what needed to be done. Even more so that Rachel would want to do what needed to be done. He wouldn't have to give her orders, she would do it all on her own. And Rachel hated Jake for it, and hated herself for what she had become.
More recently she's had to face herself again. Having been cut in half in a starfish morph, when she morphed back, she morphed two versions of herself, dubbed Mean Rachel and Nice Rachel respectively. Both were parts of her, split without the other. One was a raging, violent maniac who lacked any forward planning skills, and the other was a ditzy valley girl, who could plan in the long run but was a whimpering coward. She had to accept that these were both aspects of herself. She's a girl who has become a monster, and now she's trying to deal with that.
To most people, she appears to be a pretty girl, with a snotty attitude, these days. She's quick to make sarcastic comments and jump on the defensive, but she's not incapable of getting along with people. You just have to be able to handle her attitude. She can be secretive, and has become an excellent liar, having to lie to friends and family all the time.
Strengths/Weaknesses: Rachel is an excellent fighter. In morph. She'll fight as a human, but she has no specific training. Watch out, though, because she's got some muscles from gymnastics class, which is another of her talents. She has great balance, flexibility, and agility, all learned from years of gymnastics. She's brave, strong, courageous, and can spot a bargain sale three stores away. Oh, and she always looks good. Just rolled out of bed? Looks great! Just finished stomping Yeerk butt? Looks fantastic!
On the other hand, though, she's reckless and careless. She rarely thinks things through and that often gets her into trouble. And without her morphing ability, she's really just a girl. Her biggest fear is herself, what she's become, what she's becoming, and how she might lose whoever she had been; how she might lose her friends because they can't look at what she's become.

Samples
First Person Sample: [Rachel was digging furiously through the stupid backpack she'd found when she'd woken up. There had to be something in here, right. Finding the gear, she pulls it out and looks at it. It looks like some sort of advanced cellular device. Maybe she could use it to call Jake or Cassie. But that didn't turn up anything.
Hitting buttons angrily though turned up the option 'Post Video to Network?' There was a Network....
She slammed the video button down and held it in front of her face.]
Hello? Does anyone want to tell me where the hell I am!? I'm looking for my friends, Jake, Marco, and Cassie. [She would have added Ax and Tobias, but she didn't know how many people on this Network might be Controllers and the Yeerks knew about Tobias, and describing and Andalite was a pretty big give-a-way.]
Third Person Sample: Rachel awoke with a start, immediately checking her surroundings. This was not her bed, this wasn't her house. Oh god. Oh god, oh god, had they found her? Was this it? They were going to make her a Controller just like that. To hell with that! Rachel wasn't about to sit there and let that happen. She rolled off the uncomfortable, springy bed and took stock of her surroundings. It didn't look like the Blade Ship, or any Yeerk facility she remembered. It was a pretty dingy looking room.
Slamming her hand down, she found the note on her pillow. She read over it quickly and gave it a quizzical look. Team Rocket? Ooookay, that sounded ridiculous. What was this some new Yeerk front organization? But why call it Team Rocket? This was all really weird and not right. She picked up the backpack at the foot of the bed and pulled the uniform out of it. The note said to change.
"Uh-uh, I am not wearing that. That's so last... generation."
She set it aside and stood up. According to that note it didn't seem like she was stuck here. She went to the door and stepped outside and down the hall out of the building, and just stopped. This was so far from home it wasn't even funny.
"Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore."
So where the hell was she? Rachel stalked back into the room and grabbed the backpack off the floor rifling through it. There really wasn't anything helpful. Letting out a cry of frustration she threw the pack onto the ground and stomped back outside. She'd just morph eagle and fly out of here. That was it. If she got in the air she might be able to figure out where she was. She looked up at the sky and pictured the eagle in her mind. The bald eagle was one of her favorite morphs. Only, she wasn't morphing. None of the changes were taking place. She wasn't shrinking, or sprouting feathers. This wasn't right. This wasn't right at all. Had the Yeerks completed the anti-morphing device. If so, this was so not good. She needed to find Jake and the others. Were they okay? What if they were already Controllers?
