The Mapparium in the Christian Science Center is really quite something. It's a thirty-foot stained glass globe that you go inside. 30s era map, no proselytization from the Xtian Scientists, and right downtown so easy to get to via the T and some walking.

Given our newborn, I can't commit to seeing you in person, alas. I recommend the Museum of Science, the Freedom Trail (if you have the energy), and, given your interests, Pandemonium Books & Games in Central Square, Cambridge. (Boston also has the third-oldest comic book store in America, the Million Year Picnic, in Harvard Square.)

Seconding the Museum of Science. Especially the electricity demonstration, which is a Tether to Lightning.
