Why? It takes my favorite bits of Silver Age Batman lore, updates it, recombines it, refilters it through it's own specific canon, and does everything proud.
Oh yeah I love watching that show. I loved how they used the bit with the costume ball. Showing Thomas Wayne in his bat costume an idea I think first showed up in Untold Legend of the Batman mini many years ago the first issue which featured John Bryne being inked by my favorite Batman artist Jim Aparo!
It is amazingly courageous that they would go with a bright and shiny Silver Age Batman right after the movie made them a wad of cash. I know they had tread dark Gotham with the Timm cartoons but I was pleasantly surprised to see them take the character in this kind of fun direction.
I have barely caught any episodes but will rectify that.
I believe that Batman has now reached critical mass and become a true legend, along the lines of King Arthur, Robin Hood, the Three Musketeers, Sherlock Holmes, and Zorro -- a body of work that can support multiple, non-competing, the hell with "canon" interpretations that are all awesome in their own way.

(If I could find my BATMAN ENCYCLOPEDIA, I could tell you which mag/issue!)

Hey, if you're gonna be at Origins, block out some time for beer and Batman, k?
