Underkoffler's Overviews: Misspent Youth

Feb 24, 2009 10:29

I've finally had a chance to read and play this game; here are my brief impressions.

This is not a review, per se -- you probably won't get much out of an Underkoffler's Overview if you haven't read the game. What you will get is my opinions on the Negative, the Positive, and the Verdict.

Thanks very much, Chad. A few things:

* The gaming this weekend went very well. I now know how to make the game something I will enjoy GMing almost as much as Primetime Adventures (and for mostly the same reasons).

* I think I'm going to change the term "stakes" to "goals" in the final. It's far easier and clearer to talk about narrative goals out of the conflict rather than something like "stakes, but please don't do too many details 'cause it fucks things up."

* I don't think I'll sell any of the ashcans of Misspent Youth anymore--there are only 5 left and I'd like to have some to pass out at cons for people to reference in play--but the ashcan's PDF is available for free.

Goals is better.

No more ashcans? Cool.

Where's the finished book, so I can throw money at you? ;)

I have to write the finished book, then I will become a cash-guzzling money receptacle. I intend to start writing in the next week or so.

I'm a little slow to do so because there's a group currently running the game on the Walking Eye Podcast who have never met or played with me before, so I want to see if they pick up things I missed.

++Goals as the terminology. I just realized, reading these comments, that "goals" were what I asked my DRYH players for in the scenario I ran, and that worked pretty well.
