I had a coworker that went to MICA. Unfortunately I don't have her contact info anymore to get any details, but I know that she loves it there but said it was way overwhelming. I think I have an LJ friend who goes there too, but I'm not sure. I'll find out.

Okay, here's my LJ friend: http://olwensmiles.livejournal.com/ Her name is Kelsey but I don't know her too well, but I'm sure she'd answer questions. You can tell her I sent you.

Also, I don't know anything about the Kansas City Art Institute, but I've been to Kansas City and I really enjoyed it there. But I guess if you applied there, you've already been there.

And I forgot to say.. congratulations!

I want to major in painting.
MICA is probably my first choice.
I am just worried about tuition costs and Baltimore's crime is really intimidating to me.

My son is a senior at KCAI, and also looked at some of the schools you mentioned. The issue is intimacy of instruction...and that is why Ben chose KCAI, which is a very small campus cloistered between two renowned museums in Kansas City. If you like smaller cities with fabulous music and art scene, you will like KC. I have lived and worked in Baltimore, and I think the city is underwhelming, and full of racial tension. Cleveland??? Man, the weather is brutal. Also, I went to UT Austin, and it is HUGE...easy to get swallowed up, but probably has the best placement. You should also check out UT San Antonio, which has an amazing program. My son is going to graduate school in NYC after a year off. Focus on what you think your major art form will be, then decide. I highly recommend and EXTENDED visit to each school you are considering. Call the academic dean and ask for off-campus kids who would put you up for a week for little or no cost. C. I have visited and toured all of the schools, as well as doing pre-colleges at MICA and KCAI for a month and 2.5 weeks. I have family in Ohio, and really love the state. And UT is only a few hours from where I live now. I still feel very unsure of where I would like to go.
What does your son major in?
I am planning on a major in painting.

Thank you for the input.
