[The voice is heavy, and convincingly filled with grief. To all of those... who had so graciously offered to help me find my daughter, Karai, I thank you for your kind thoughts. However, a couple of days ago I was told that Karai had been found brutally murdered in the forest North of Luceti. I was not told much more about the ongoing investigation ( Read more... )

[...This is an interesting, though very tragic, piece of news. A brutal murder, something personal, something targeted, or merely a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time? And if there's one murder, will there be others to come?]

I do not know your daughter, but even in a world where death is not permanent, no parent should ever have to learn about the passing of their child. My deep condolences.

I thank you for your kind words. I do grieve for her death, but as she is coming back, it is the intent behind her death that upsets me more. Karai is not one to make enemies on her own.

[Oh no, Karai fought Ch'rell's enemies, and reluctantly made them her own.]

A pointless and violent act.

I realize this is a sensitive question, but can you think of any reason why someone would have killed her?

I can think of none. I am not sure what her relations to others are here in Luceti are, so I am not sure of anything at the moment.

[After all, what daughter completely confides in her father?]

Killed? How? [And why?]

Yes, a couple of days ago. I am not sure how, I was not told.

I've known her for awhile now. She never mentioned any enemies. [Which just makes Jack dumb. Oh well.]

Zehahaha! Why worry 'bout it? It was her fate! She prob'ly pissed off somebody who she shouldn't have, an' she paid the price fer it! At least it ain't permanent - if there's one decent thing 'bout this hellhole, it's that dead people don't stay dead!

[She did make someone angry, and she did pay for it.]

It's a small comfort I suppose that death is not permanent.

Yep! Weird things happen ta people when they come back, though - they've lost memories an' powers an' stuff like that. Guess they ain't doin' this "raisin' the dead" crap fer free!

[ Well. That's really, really terrible. Damn, Luceti. ]

We'll all hope for as much. I'm sorry for your loss.

She will be back. However losing your daughter is terrible no matter what the circumstances are.

...it truly is. I can't even imagine. [ As she lost him, and not the other way around.

But he does remember the feeling he had when she got taken for a visit with the Malnosso. It likely couldn't compare, and it had been painful enough. ]

[There's no image. No sound. Not even a filter. Just the following cryptic message:]

Only a very foolish being chooses war instead of peace, for in peace children bury fathers, but in war fathers bury children.

[A murder pings Shikamaru, especially one where no culprit has been named. He says nothing, has nothing to offer the grieving, but he listens in all the same. He tries to keep track of these things.

This comment draws his attention as well, not only in it's cryptic message, but in the way it's delivered. It definitely casts some suspicions, both on why she was murdered, and on who did the deed. Something to do with her father, perhaps? Or is it just a taunt?

Either way, it bears some looking into. Let's see what there is to find out about this woman, Karai...]

[Naturally he ignores this one. After all, how could it possibly have anything to do with him?]
