God, I loved your dad. If there's a big fishing pond or cliff to jump off of in the great beyond and somehow he's looking down, or up, I wish him a Happy Fathers' Day and I thank him for helping me bring two great people into this world. :)

There are times I miss him, obviously, but then I think of the neo-conservative angry man he was becoming and there are times I'm almost glad things happened the way they did.

I can understand that, although I think of UB, who is getting that way, too, and I'm still glad he's alive.

I've never heard that story about one of the Buddhas.

In all his stories, my father definitely told tales that made me happy and feel like I could do anything, even if the stories were only based on a half-truth twisted to suit his needs.

He really did what any good storyteller does: he took a kernel of truth and ran with it. Trying to pass it off as truth--there were times I could almost appreciate what he did and times I felt sorry for the guy.

But he was definitely a major influence on my writing with the way he told stories.

Am catching up on my reading.

Sounds to me like his stories were the truth for him. And what good story teller doesn't embellish the truth. :)
