Cosi di Fico

Today we made cosi di fico (Sicilian fig cakes). Italians make fig cookies this time of the year...it's just what we do. Most fig cookies I've seen are sort of Fig Newtonlike, with some families frosting and decorating the cookies. (A good friend's family makes them like that, and they are mighty good fig cookies

Okay, those cookies are BADASS! VERY elaborate and cool looking. Has a sort of opaque cut glass/waxy-candle look to it.

Almost too pretty to eat. I bet they taste great as well.

Yeah, they're a lot of fun to make, and they taste good. Which can be a problem--'cause you want to eat a lot of them.

And they're figs...

And, well...let's just say they can keep an old guy who eats nothing but processed cheese, peanut butter, and rubberbands regular :)

Those are really something. Saw your Mom trying to buy the special carving knives until the lights went out at Joann's. Had no idea how intricate these would be. Really lovely. What a neat tradition, too! Thank you for sharing.
