I am preparing to apply for SSI due to Fibro and CFIDS. I applied 12 years ago and was denied, but I know a lot has changed since then and I really didn't have a strong case at that time anyway

i was approved with no problems in 1995, but it was for ptsd and "disabling depression" (even though i'd been disabled by undiagnosed "iaiyh" illness for years. i wasn't diagnosed with cfids and fibro until 2 years later

I agree with what the others have said. I also wrote up some ideas/examples for you, but it got too lengthy for LJ. If you're interested, please contact me via e-mail at marizoowho on yahooooooooooo and I can send it to you.
The most important point I made was that if you do use a lawyer, do not be shy about staying on top of your deadlines, etc. These lawyers often have many, many like 50-100 or more cases at one time, so your phone calls to keep things moving are very important. I learned this the hard way.
wishing you the best of luck!
mariz p.s. if you're not interested in e-mailing me, I am not offended in the least. However, please don't let shyness hold you back.
From past experience, list anything and everything possible. And I mean ALLLL of it. And be specific and lengthy. Don't just say CFIDS and fibro. List each and every symptom in detail. And list every doctor or hospital you can think of. Even if it was just one visit 10 years ago. As far as a lawyer goes, it doesn't make any difference one way or the other the first go round. Sometimes it doesn't the second or third. I'd say try it yourself first, then go the lawyer route if necessary. Since you will only be getting SSI, that will be a lot of money out of pocket for a lawyer.
