There was a punk band in Edinburgh (not 70s punk, 90s re-punk) called the Gin Goblins, who'd ring up the Sun and tell them there was a bunch of smelly Edinburgh punks planning a Halloween gig in the local mental health care residence, or who'd admitted to breaking into crypts and having sex with corpses, etc etc etc. The Sun would run shock horror front page stories, until eventually a journalist discovered it was the band themselves. The Sun didn't care and when they were short of a shock horror headline they'd just call the Goblins.
