I've had a huge day and am too tired to do this properly, but here is day two of the happy meme, happinesses itemized in reverse chronological order because the afternoon one was the most exciting.
Glad you enjoyed the potluck! I was sad I couldn't come; being back at home fails a little bit.
And I'm really excited to see La Divina. :)
A contralto? WOAH. That's actually pretty epic. Contralto voice are so awesome. The first opera I ever saw (La donna del lago) had the most gorgeous contralto part and I fell in love.
Yeah, it was kinda sad; most of the people I'd invited ended up not being able to come because they'd already gone home to their families. I pout.
Heehee, one of the things I thought of during my afternoon and evening of tentative mad squeeing over the possibility of maybe possibly potentially being a contralto was that I might be able to sing Malcolm. Such a strange and gorgeous part. And HARD. In my wildest dreams will I develop the coloratura facility to navigate all that huge range at the proper degree of neck-breaking speed... *crosses fingers*
*peeks at wiki entry* Ah, so you found Ewa Podles? She's quite... something. Rather hooty for my taste, but still a pretty staggering voice. Also the only true contralto I've ever heard live -- MN Opera had her here a couple of years ago for La Donna del Lago. But I like Kathleen Ferrier and Maureen Forrester much better as intros to the contralto sound...
I can't wait to play around with the 'new voice' some more! I haven't listened to the tape of my lesson yet... I'm a little nervous to do so, frankly. I think I probably sounded like I was going through a rather awkward puberty a lot of the time.

Well, at least a rather unusual shade of quartz crystal.
