Because I randomly stalk other people's journals... (Aka the ff list on paid accounts. ^_^;)

I'm doing my damndest not to whine too much, because actors who whine about their costumes suck, but... arg.
Seriously, you get sooooo many karma points for trying. <3 When I did theater some of the divas would actively throw fits at me about their costumes even when what they wanted had nothing to do with the character design, nevermind the weeks spent on character sheets and sketches and approval in staff meetings. I think I cried once and my poor co-head had to intervene. ^_^;; So any thoughts aimed at not making the costumers cry raises you greatly in my esteem. :D

Oh god, you poor thing. Those damn divas. I have it as a serious life goal never, ever to be one of those people.

And yeah... I think the reason I'm feeling so whiny is actually because the character design as I understood it from the director and from a long chat with the designer (we were told that we were supposed to give extensive input into our costume design) was that the character was supposed to be a wealthy social-climbing fashion-conscious opera-loving egotistical young woman, and that the costume would be accordingly swooshy and silky and well-fitted and generally diva-ish. I'd been working on portraying her accordingly, and was counting on the costume meshing with the work I'd been doing. Now I think I may have to do a fair amount of reworking in order to fit in with the new design, which no one warned me about. If I'd been told from the beginning that I was going to look like an stiff-necked bourgeoise fashion disaster I'd be overjoyed by how this costume's going to look. Is that still diva-ish? I guess maybe it is.

Actually, that sounds entirely reasonable. Short of some sort of catastrophe (like the time someone dropped out of the cast three weeks before the show, so we had to tell an 18-year-old boy he was suddenly playing a woman), they should really keep you appraised of changes in the character design/directing. So you're not being a diva at all. ^_^ (I suspect you're much too sweet to be capable of it anyway. :P)

I said this before, but you sounded (and looked) lovely last night and for what it's worth I could tell you were more relaxed (or at least not clinging to the coaster car for dear life) than in times past. Which is awesome, of course!

I dunno, I think disemboweling squids would be far more fun. But I'm strange like that, as you well know.

... I, too, like those corduroy pants. Though I can easily see where your mom wouldn't.

OKAY FOLKS, It's not that I don't like the pants. It's that they're worn through in wierd assymetrical ways. They actually fit Anna quite well. So she likes them because they feel good. I'm all for that. And I will probably love them much more now that they're properly worked over in pretend squid ink.

Your description of the day spent Doing Theater Stuff made me so happy.

Your description of singing Chris's recital made me so happy.

Interesting that you're losing some of your crippling performance nerves. The same thing started to happen to me, at about the same age. Isn't it COOL when you can actually concentrate on stage and be there, instead of in some wierd off-the-charts nervous zone where you can't even feel your toes?

I love you and can't wait to hear 3PO. Purple plaid? WhatEVER!!!

your mom, no fashionista herself

What?? The looks are now parenthetical!??

Oh god. You think I'm ugly, don't you. Go on, you can admit it. Go on. *hurls self sobbing into your lap*

(... You just can't win. Neener-neener. =D)

uta_o_utau (you guys were in choir together at least briefly, right?) was telling me about a class project in which they not only dissected squid, they then wrote with the ink using the squids own spines as quills.

Clearly I went to the wrong school.

I LOVE SET CONSTRUCTION. You may have seen me exclaim about it before. The smell of sawdust, the impending calluses, the tingling fingers from the blood shaken up by the vibrations of the drill and table saw... Aching but satisfied muscles, a stage worth looking at.

I really want to do more of it. I don't know when I will, but hopefully I'll get the chance at some point. Snorting sawdust and paint fumes for hours on end is clearly addictive.

Glad to hear that things are going well and good except for the costume issue. *hug!*

I still smell faintly of wood dust and muslin and sweat and paint and theater-ness. How sexy.

Sounds sexy to me! ;) <3

I love the smell of theaters. Somehow they all smell similar, I don't know why. And yeah, it totally is a sexy scent. =D
