The hero of Canton himself! alexis_laforge April 5 2007, 05:15:06 UTC
This is a great sort of biography of Jayne. He's made of the same stuff as the moon he was born on. Rock. Hard, unyielding. It heats up in the sun so that it'll burn you if you touch it. But there are nooks, crannies, deep mine-shafts where you'll find treasure if you dig deep in the right spots. Ah. So wonderful.

I finally did some writing again myself! So proud.

Hi Alex! That's fabulous that you are writing again! Woo-Whoo to the muse!

Jayne had to come from some hardy stock I figured. And he wasn't rightly poor, point of fact, he was pretty well off by comparison I thought. Adam and Joss mentioned at some point that Jayne was from an ok family and he was just out in the 'Verse because he was bored or in trouble...I went with the in trouble.

I like your interpretation of him, as always... hard and unyielding and the heats up in the sun..hmm...yes.

I always figured that Jayne was raised in such a family. I makes more sense that he would hang out with book as much as he did. Book could sorta be Jayne's father figure. That relations ship makes more sense and the way he bows his head in the pilot when Book prays.
Wow I love how rich these characters are!

Never had any doubt of that being a father/son relationship myself.. and surely the pilot gave a credible insight into that. Jayne complied, slightly uncomfortable, but obedient to what he remembered was the right thing to do.

Thank you for the help with all of these gifts of insight!

Finally got the time I needed to catch up without rushing and, gah, I will be saving this one to the memories. You really hit me in the gut with this one, truly, and, gah, the imagery here was perfect -- I was walking through this fic, smelling and breathing it, and that's rare for me, *g* His progression was beautiful, and your use of the backstory, from early tracking gifts -- like Kaylee and her machines, Doc and his medicines -- to how well you used the mining, this is seriously a beautiful piece of work.

Memories!

Thank you! A memoried story is a real treasure to the author. I am honored.

Jayne has such complexities that it was interesting to see how they all evolved from a humble start. I hope the stories keep you content with what his life brings him.

"There is more between heaven and earth than is dreamt of in your philosophy," as Shakespeare put it.

Bonnie/Trudie, they are women who helped shape a man who has become a fascination for some of us. How did he get to be the man he is? And where will that lead?

There is an certain irony to the Alliance's hubris when applied to Jayne; add in his connection to River and yes, it is certain that violence will ensue... That tale will be told, I promise, that question is on my desktop waiting for the right moment.

I heard Dusty Springfield singing that song one day and had a flash of River catching her breath and looking at her man and realizing that he truly was the only man who could ever reach her, so go ahead and sing it loud!
