I want this so much, in my head, to be a somewhat sleepy Jayne, at first, answering the almost always wide-awake River, growing simultaneously more alert and confused as the words move between them. When the River flows too fast, just hang on to your raft and try to avoid drowning. Or just give in and sink; in this River, you might even enjoy it.

Hee; my guess... I'm working on a similar scene (although the characters couldn't be more different) right now... these scenes are the best ones to right! This kind of talk is so intimate and wonderful.

words are never lies
Truer things are rarely seen than their honesty with each other. Her being a reader is taken out of the equation with them and it becomes their innate pairing that speaks no lies. He speaks internally instead of in the bluster of posturing; she tells as she believes, lies take too much self-correction, not worth the investment.
