Okay here it goes:
Most authors have userpics. (You can go here for mine: http://ireth06.livejournal.com/) If you hover over them you can view their journal, profile, and send a message. That would qualify as a contact link (an e-mail address will do as well)
A userpic is the little picture nest to a post.

If you want to post a userpic go here:
Home page - Profile: manage userpics. You can make your own by entering a URL or just browse your own pics. Then click proceed (a little down on the left.)Reasd what's on top of the page, it's not that hard.

You can give it a name and mark the default pic (the one that will be on your journal) and don't forget to click save settings!

Thanks sooooo much!!!! = D I just made one with my brother's unwilling help while the internet connection snapped *evil laugh* I'm so happy in the simple fact I finally have a userpic of my own *contented sigh* Thanks again, and you'll be getting an e-mail from me soon...if the blasted internet connection is kind *hopes*
