I love this more than I can possibly say. From the opening sections, which are unspeakably brilliant and original, to the ending, which has me all choked up -- this is the perfect Dumbledore fic.

Thank you! The Knights of Walpurgis is canon, actually---or at least, Jo named them in an interview.

This is wonderful. I love how it fits perfectly with the Dumbledore we see in canon while giving him true depth. You've pinpointed how very different he is from many other wizards, and shown us why.

I do have a tiny quibble with your timeline. We know Harry was twelve in 1992 (the date of Nearly Headless Nick's 500th deathday feast, in CoS, was October 31, 1992), so James and Lily can't have died in 1977. Of course, HP timelines are incredibly convoluted and contradictory, and it's a very small problem in a very good story.

No, you're perfectly right. I always get confused with the timeline, but I did know Harry was almost certainly born in 1980 or 1981. Can't think why I didn't catch that earlier.

At any rate, your praise is very warming. :-)

I think the reason I started writing this story is because of my conviction that Dumbledore is the most misunderstood character in the whole series. I don't claim I got him perfect, but I flatter myself he's more recognizable here than when he's heartless and cold.

I'm glad that line was affecting for you---it made me teary too. :)

I can't tell you how pleased I am that you liked it, I have implicit faith in your judgment. :-)
