More from my reading journal, this is a longish essay-type entry that continues and expands my thoughts on vampirism (see August 14th entry).

Glad you liked it and found it useful. Vampires always seem to provoke some kind of reaction in humans; some, like myself, find the whole idea fascinating, others, like you, obviously find the concept worrying. It's partly to do with mortality, I think, and all the accompanying fears such as ageing and losing control of your body/mind.

But also the concept of the vampire brings out fears such as people demanding too much from you emotionally and physically, and challenges/transgresses age-old conceptions of sexuality. I think this last is probably the most interesting aspect of it for me because I write erotica and most eroticism is based on the giving and taking of emotional/physical energy. The vampire story/concept, to me, is a way of subverting traditions.

I really enjoyed reading your post. Vampires are fascinating on so many different levels. I have always been drawn to stories of vampires, movies, you name it. My friends and I even play a game called Vampire. Thanks for such an interesting post!

Ooh, is that the Vampire:The Masquerade game? I love that game and have several of the books, which I've actually found to be a great source of inspiration for stories.

Glad you liked my post. I've put up a general one on horror literature if that's of any interest :-))

Yes actually it is Vampire the Masquerade! I run our game and I have to get 27 more books and then I will have practically everything they ever put out. Well not first edition but second and third... I will have 70 books soon (I am waiting for two to arrive in the mail). I agree they do inspire great stories.
