307th verse, same as the first

Note: yes, this was prompted by a specific comment; yes, it's just a couple of people behaving badly; yes, I'm probably giving it more attention than it deserves. It's a pet peeve. I'm choosing not to link because it wasn't in my journal, and I don't think the person whose journal it's in wants more of shitstorm in hers. Quoting, however:

*nods* Honestly, one of the things that always gets me is that my legal name would mean less to fannish readers than cereta would.

Me too. I've been Bkwyrm longer than I've been Legal Firstname Lastname, because I changed my name when I got married eleven years ago.
And I don't even have a pseudonym because of fannish stuff, either. Originally, I adopted a pseudonym because oddly, reviewing books on Satanism and talking about the theological underpinnings of witchcraft on the internet attract some VERY strange people who might want to show up on your doorstep. Especially if they know you're female.

I own my real name on the internet three times over: beat that, Ms. Lucy! :)

And seriously...I've been in online fandom since 1995 and I've met hundreds of people face-to-face and I have never used any name that didn't make it instantly clear who I was. My mother, on the other hand, has been going by the clearly false name of "Mom" for fifty years. What sort of transparency is that, I ask you?

Seriously! Who are all these women who claim to be "Mom"? Will the REAL Mom please stand up?

*Hides "Mommy" identity.*

Seriously, I will never understand the, "Well, it's just an internet handle." I have more stuff, good and bad, accrued to this name than I do to legal name. Legal name me is boring, yo. Lucy Gillam starts shit!

I am pretty sure she would just be jbfletcher ;). OR, because one of her many nieces or nephews sent her the invite in the first place, she'd be auntjess.

Some people just don't seem to put any thought into things, so they? I've known Lucy Gillam for years, even though you probably don't know me much, so, yeah.

Also, completely OT, congratulations on the Bengals. *sad in Pittsburgh* :)

Oh, dude, we got slaughtered last night. Still, it was nice to have a winning season, and a shot at postseason, anyway.

I know, and if only New England or Oakland had cooperated, we'd be in the playoffs, too. What a weird year. And I'm very confused as to how to feel about the Bengals. I grew up in Cincinnati, but I've been living in Pittsburgh for a very long time.

But, good luck in the postseason.

I meet friends of friends at gatherings and they introduce themselves... then they mention their lj name and I mention mine and they go "AH! Hi!"

I have several friends that I call by their handle IN PERSON. My husband goes by a shortened form of his handle, which has no relation on his actual name.

If you're not going to attach your name to it, then you probably shouldn't be saying it. Be it your handle or your RL name.

Some people are lazy and don't want to log in... in that case, just tag it "-[handle]" at the end of the comment. Faster than saying

Sorry, not logging in because it's an "internet handle" anyway.

Exactly.
