Five times question from me! tzikeh August 9 2009, 03:12:42 UTC
Five times that you, hardened horror fan that you are, were genuinely terrified by something (a moment, a visual, whatever) in a movie.

//2. Babylon 5, the break-away from Earth. A week before, I had been on the phone with a friend saying that no, they weren't really going to, because it would be too much to deal with. And then they DID. And better, they actually dealt with it, with setting up security and figuring out food, and what to do when it was all over, because we all know that "go back to the way it was" never quite works out. For those of us wise in the ways of TV, it was really quite something.//

This was the moment that I fell in love with Babylon 5. I'd seen maybe two episodes of the show before Severed Dreams, and I really, truly thought they were going to wrap up the Earth problem in a neat little bow by the end of the episode. Because that was what happened on TV shows. So, I was absolutely stunned that the break had consequences that lasted for entire arcs.

Of course, arcs where 'everything changes' are the standard now, so I have a hard time explaining to others why that moment was so powerful.

*nods* For me, the core mystery of the Minbari surrender was a hook, and then I saw "Signs And Portents" and was hooked. But Season Three was really just mind-blowing in terms of "TV doesn't do this."

"No, Luke, I am your father."

I wish a little I could have watched that unspoiled.

It was really quote something. That was the last movie my dad took me to, and I remember thinking when he died later that year, "Now he'll never know."

5. Angel becomes Angelus

Oh YEAH. When Angel changed into Angelus after he and Buffy hooked up, it reminded me of how some guys literally changed into another person after he would get into a girls pants. That was VERY well done.
