Fluffernutter Experimentation: For Science!

Mar 16, 2013 13:12

So, Ladybird97's recent fluff post reminded me that I hadn't had a fluffernutter in like forever.  Also, in the comments some of us speculated on the idea of creating a Nutella fluffernutter.  Fortunately, I have kids at just the right age for this experimentation, and for lunch today we made fluffernutter sandwiches.  For Science ( Read more... )

AWESOME. It's great that the Excessive and Nutella variations turned out to be as good as they sounded. I must try an Excessive someday, but probably only one. And maybe with salad for dinner after! Because I am no longer 6.

Also, it is adorable and totally in-character that R likes them all the best :)

Thank you for sharing the results of your rigorous scientific testing!

I was unwilling to sacrifice myself fully on the altar of science....just too sweet and gloppy.

Hee. I can handle a small bite of something with Nutella smeared on it, and zero marshmallow.... Agreed with wildpaletz that CP ought not simply to omit your reaction!

Having tried to override my skepticism, I suspect that a less sugary version of this would probably taste quite good in its own right--chestnut pieces with some peanut butter and chopped/melted chocolate, perhaps with banana slices or something. (From my POV this comment is seasoned with pragmatism, not an attempt at upscaling, given that the only original ingredient I can tolerate is the peanut butter; half of it would give me a nasty rash.)

So out of curiosity I looked up nutrition information on an Excessive--at 700 calories and 37g sugar, it is basically it is two snicker bars. An impressive 6 g fiber though.

Also surprising, Nutella is terrible compared to fluff. Fluff is all sugar but only 40 cal/8g sugar for 2 tbsp. Nutella packs 200 calories into 2 tbsp, and 20g of sugar and 2g saturated fat. Nutritionally Nutella is peanut butter with equal volume of table sugar stirred in.

Fluff isn't very dense--that's really kinda it's defining feature. Nutella, on the other hand, ...

(And yeah, just looking at Nutella's ingredient list is enough to realize that it's no good for you. First two ingredients are sugar and palm oil...)
