Felix has never been afraid of drowning ... Not until this very second.
What a great opening! It sucked me right into the story. Especially because I've never thought of fastidious Gaeta as someone who would like the mussiness of the ocean - all that sand and salt sticking to your skin, etc.
I quite liked how you adapted the canon of Felix's time on NC and his kidnapping by The Circle here.
“He chooses now to grow a spine,” scoffs Tigh, quiet, but the whole ship listens to him.
I can't quite explain why, but this sentence is sooo chilling somehow.
He imagines the shot tearing through his head, through his brains, splattering his blood on the deck. He imagines them tossing him overboard, letting him float on the sea until the birds had his body and he decayed too much to sink, then decayed too much to float.
I think I remember this from the original ficlet version, but it's still a beautiful bit of poetry, so I had to mention it.
As is this: There’s a flare of light, and Felix flinches - it consolidates to a flickering
( ... )
Have I mentioned I love your comments very, very much? :)
Oh, I think this Gaeta is very fond of the ocean...just like the Gaeta in canon seems like he was basically born on a starship, or at least aspired to it most of his conscious life, this Gaeta's first love is the sea. It's not like there was much cleanliness back then anyhow...:P
Yeah. I tend to adapt that scene a lot.
Baltar is so very jaunty. He would have to be jaunty as a pirate. There's really no other good way for him to be. He certainly couldn't be an *evil* pirate.
I'm glad it didn't feel too much like TTVTS! Gaeta and Baltar should have a quite different dynamic from Gaeta and Antony...and I was definitely worried that the one had echoes of the other.
....and yes. We must have included Lance. Though you can thank demonqueen666 for remembering Lance's name and correcting me on his gender, among other things.
You know why! Because Gaeta is the cute and sweet and wonderfulness and Baltar is a slimy bastard and I hate him. Gaeta deserves better, damnit! Still, you manage to make it fun. I like shamlelesspirate!Baltar better than the normal one.

I very much look forward to them rescuing the dread pirate Baltar, btw!

You know I hate this pairing, but that line made me incredibly, unaccountably happy.
Also,
he gave felix food anyway and rescued him from execution and has a dashing smile and don't those things deserve some kind of appreciation?
Loved it! So cute.
