Well, it's almost Thanksgiving, and this will be the first year ever that I won't be spending it at my grandmother's. In fact, since Canadian Thanksgiving is in October, I won't be celebrating it at all. Also, since Emily is living in Turkey until April, and my mom doesn't want to cook anymore, I don't think it'll be much of a holiday at home

I'm sorry you've had to go through that with your parents, but power to you for stepping up and making the holiday sentiment important. All families need at least one person like that. Since self-awareness and understanding of our own families seems to be half the battle, I have no doubt that the family you raise will be good, strong and loving.
