Charity Auction: Save Kitty Kolya!

Jun 11, 2011 18:25

Hi folks. I know I don't post here very often, but one of our own is hurting very badly today, and I felt the least I could do was make my journal available to host a charity auction to help. I'm going to turn this post over to brilliant writer and dear friend Aleksandr Voinov now to explain the situation, how you can help, and how you can benefit with lots of great goodies to bid on.

Okay, I try not to do this as often as it might be required (there's a lot of scarcety out there). But this one's pretty close to the bone.

My very *very* lovely co-writer 's cat has swallowed sewing thread and needs surgery. Since Gil's a poor student, that surgery is like 1/6 of their yearly income. Gil's already selling off their books to pay for it and getting a second job. To help Gil pay for the surgery, we're running a charity auction.

By offering an item for bid or bidding for items on offer, you'll be helping an immensely talented author and a close personal friend of mine who went above and beyond the call of duty to help me through some rather unpleasant times back in 2007.

Thank you very much.

Here's how the auction works.

If  want you donate something (can be fiction, ebooks, critique/beta reading, swag, lunch dates, whatever), make your offer in the comments. Please be sure to reply directly to the auction post (NOT to another comment), and list your offer in the subject line of your post. Provide as many details as you can. Feel free to link to your Live Journal, AO3, or DW account, website, Goodreads Page, DeviantArt page, or any other place where bidders can learn more about your offer. If your offer is geographically restricted (for instance, you can only ship to the USA), please be sure to say so. If shipping is not included, please be sure to specify costs. Don't forget to specify your minimum bid. Since this is a charity auction and nobody benefits if your item doesn't sell, we recommend starting inexpensively.

If you want to bid on an item, comment on the appropriate offer post with your bid. Please be sure to reply to the offer post itself, and not the prior bid. Bids must increase by increments of at least $1.

New items can be offered for auction until midnight EST on Wednesday, June 29. The auction will end at midnight EST on Thursday, June 30. All bids are time-stamped, so any bids made after midnight on June 30 will unfortunately not count.

(Note that if you don't want to bid on anything in the auction but would still like to help--even donations of a single dollar add up to a big pile of dollars when enough people get together--you can click here or here to donate via Paypal.)

If you have any questions, please reply to this post with the subject line "QUESTION." If for some reason you cannot comment on the post, please email me at metarachel at gmail dot com and I'll do my best to help you. It's my understanding that you do NOT need an LJ account to place a bid, but if you don't have one, please be sure to leave an email address in your bid so we can contact you if you win.

Thank you all for your support, and I hope you find some fabulously awesome stuff here to bid on. Good luck to all!
