Clarke arrived before Jen did and selected a table near the window. He purposefully arrived a few minutes early because he did not want to chance being late. He didn't need things to be sour from the start due to her having to wait for him. He also wanted time to review his notes once more before she arrived. It's exactly two when she shows up and she's a little surprised he got there before her. But only a little. The rest of her is completely not surprised at all. Smiling hasn't been her thing in a long time, at least beyond the walls of her townhouse. She's dressed down compared to what she wears to work, but still manages to look put together. She's wearing dark wash jeans and heeled boots with a blue sweater that cost more than Clarke's iPhone. As she makes her way over to him, she tries to not look so stony-faced, putting on a slight smile.

He can tell she's trying to smile and he appreciates it, just like he appreciates her being there. When she sat down he handed her a menu.

"How are you?" He picked up the other menu and started to scan it.

She glances over the menu, but she's not particularly hungry, so she opts for a fruit bowl and a coffee. At least she can be healthy while being not hungry. Setting the menu to the side, she looks up at him and answers, "I'm fine." Did he expect a different answer? "What about you? You look like you're doing well."

Clarke splits the difference between super healthy and a big meal and orders poached eggs with wheat toast. He closes the menu and hands it to the waiter before the waiter walks away.

"I'm okay, thanks. I had a productive morning so," he shrugged with a hint of a smile. He didn't know if he should just jump right into the conversation or how to start but he knew she wouldn't appreciate superfluous pleasantries. To buy a moment he took a sip of his coke. "They have really strong coffee here, I think you'll like it."
