I am watching an ASPCA heart wrenching add asking for money. "We will take a picture of one of the animals in our care and send it to you". But what happens to that animal? Do they tell me when that dog or cat is put down because no one addopts it? I appreciate the work animal shelters do, but somehow it seems that if I gave them my name and number ( Read more... )

just like those adds for kids in another country, one never knows whom gets the money after "handeling expenses" are deducted. cats survive well on dollar tree food and cat litter, meal worms can be found at fresh water bait stores, and pet store chains are just like walmarts in getting trained employees.

voting day is like visiting a slot machine. it is your free choice to vote for what or whom is offered by the voting gods to choose from. most times am prone to three lemons. have fun, Wildflower 06

I wish my cats did well on Purina or whatever, but they are prone to urinary tract infections and I need to get them high acid food. I tried getting them to eat the tomatoes, but it was a big 'no go'. Interesting about the meal worms, but there are few bait stores around either. (try getting a freshwater fishing licence! Does no one fish?)
I think the Wallmart monkeys are a bit brighter than the Petco ones, but I am not sure on that.

I recently donated money to the North Shore Animal League and now I am being inundated with mail requesting money, from The Humane Society, Guide Dogs for the Blind, and so on. The latest one I got was from an organisation working to improve (or stop?) factory farming of pigs. I have nothing against pigs, and I know that large pig farms are known to create very bad enviromental conditions. But...but...but...I feel this is maybe just going a little too far?? Oink

I believe they make more money selling your name to other organisations (the more they sell to, the more money) than they ever actually get from you. I made the mistake of once giving to Greenpeace. I then got weekly 'polls' in huge tree killing envelopes asking me assinine questions like "do you approve of harvesting whale pups for soup" or something that was a "dah" no brainer question. Eventually I just started packing everything they sent me back into the prepaid envelopes and wasted even more of their money. I never give anything with my name on it if I can. Sometimes you can't help it, like when a friends father died we donated in his name to the Disabled Vets. I get more address lables from them than I will ever use. They wonder why Americans don't give more?
Oh, and yeah, farm animals suffer, but you and I won't change that, but McDonalds might. It's all about who has the big $$.
