I'm a doctor Jim, not a mechanic!

Well, actually I'm a grave digger, but today I was a mechanic. My goal today was to get the rebuild kit for the lawnmower's carburetor. (what asinine spelling on that word) Have I filled you in my carburetor problems? I forget. I don't think I have, but if I did, skip ahead ( Read more... )

You need Bag Balm.

Will second that.

Any my old motorcycle carb was the same way...I ended up with a pinhole on a float that caused it to sink, and leave the needle valves open.

I've got a couple of small engines I'd love to have you take a look at, CC. I never seem to have any luck with them myself. Where are you getting your parts? Teach me, O, Greasy Wise One.

It's getting hard to find a good parts place. They keep closing on us. We've gone through 3 in the last 20 years, not including some back yard hacks.
Currently we use Stuarts Power Equip. in Holbrook. They aren't cheap, but they can order the parts. If the parts are still made.
I'd be happy to look at your engine Wolfgaar (nudge nudge, know what I mean, know what I mean) sometime. If it doesn't run, I certainly cant hurt it.
What kind of engines are you talking? Regular lawnmower? 2 stroke? (that would be an engine where you mix oil and gas in the gas, no oil reserve on the side) or other? Are there any other? I don't know. Let me know. We can make a play date, Ryther can play with the kid and I can play with the machines. lol

That'd be groovy. It's a good size engine on a leaf/brush shredder. I was using it one weekend and it started right up. The very next weekend, I couldn't get it to start. I removed the air filter over the carburator, sprayed it with cleaner and tried again. It started up, sputtered and died. I tried that a couple more times. Then I poured a capful of gas into the carburator. Same effect each time, it would start up, sputter, then die.

It seems that gas isn't making it to the carb in an on-going manner. If it was a car, I'd clean the fuel line, replace the fuel filter, and/or replace the fuel pump; but I suspect that in a small engine it uses vacuum power to draw gas up into the carb, but I'm only guessing.

If I can use this as an excuse to get a date with you, I'll definitely take you up on it. [nudge nudge, wink wink]> Are you around Sunday, perchance?

I am not going to be around Sun. I'm going to NH to visit my mom.
Next Sat is out as it's Halloween, but maybe next Sunday?

Is your blower a two stroke? And how old is your gas? Bad gas is often the #1 problem in mowers and the like. How old is the creature? Have you taken off the air filter to see how icky that is? Is it all oily?
