i got rejected!  not the relationship kind, the rejection slip variety.  so those poems i sent to literary journal crazyhorse back in august?  i finally got a response, albeit negative, but positive in the sense that the editors did get around to reading my work and making a decision.  i was starting to wonder . . . it's been almost 8 months.  ( Read more... )

Hey, glad you finally heard something back from crazyhorse (heh, as an aside, CH is one of the many places that has rejected work from me as well).

I'm also glad to hear that your pushing your manuscript out the door! Good luck with that! I haven't pushed mine in a long, long time (and since it's twice as long as it ever was when I previously tried to find an agent and/or publisher, I really should get around to doing that).

you see, i do listen to you and take what you say to heart.

and yeah, i'd still like to see you get tSS published. you should send it off to at least one agency or press before you get sent off to africa.

YAY! This is wonderful! (i join you in the idea that rejection letters are good things and ARE getting you that much closer to publication) And i'm SO pleased and proud that you are sending off a query pertaining to your novel! WOOOooooooooooOOOOOOOO!!! :)
Very good move! YAAAAAAAYY!!!

yes, the book is on its way to canada now. i'm quite pleased with myself, it was a momentous day for me. all winter i've been depressed to inaction, but it's interesting that i start getting things done when the weather changes slightly. thank you, your affirmation is an upper.

Good way to think of the rejection notes. I heard one writer say to pick a small room in the house and wallpaper it with such notes. Figure as long as there's still space, you haven't tried enough.

And it also tells you that this publisher, and maybe others as well, may very well take 8 months before they get around to reading their incoming entries. So longer to have hope of an acceptance also!

i think i've heard of this writer who wallpapers a small room in the house, though i can't remember who it is. but i know i got the pin-up idea from somewhere.

and to echo your second point, a friend from school i ran into last month said something like that regarding response times. he said that NOT receiving a timely reply might be a good sign, because they are considering the manuscript. an immediate rejection would mean it didn't take long to see that they don't want it.
