I bought 3 big bags of sweets to give to kissies when they came around and my mum bought a really big bag of sweets too and wouldn't you know it. Not a single trick or treater came around.
We don't have a trick-or-treat thingy in Sweden in the same way. But during easter kids dressed as witches and warlocks use to come by the door, knock and get some candy for their trip to 'The Blue Hills'.
My mother had made little bags with candy, each and every with a little photo of their really cute family-dog which all the kids loved.
Not a single kid came. As it was a small village and considered barbaric and heathen. Also one of those 'bleh' thingies.. only a bit more heartbreaking.
Yes charming and lovely when little children. Intimidating when teenagers. Teenagers are too old for trick or treating.
When I tried to do trick or treating (and most years failed as most people still had no idea what it was back then) I only did it up to about 11. Would not even consider it in my ten years as I felt it was two young for me. Many teeenagers do not think that way, they think about what they can get for free. Same with Guy Fawkes. Teenagers are too old to ask for penny for the guy.
Fortunately I havent had to worry about the local scruffy urchins near me coming round demanding sweets with menaces.....that normally happens next month when they start knocking and wailing "Jinglebells".

They don't come around my place either. Though in the past they come around my Mum's which is where I was.
Cannot really come knocking on my door as I am in a block of flats.
