Got elk?

Aug 30, 2016 00:07

I thought I would post a picture of this guy, who visited me today (along with about 20 of his friends), because I'm talking with the lovely sylvanwitch about our respective local wildlife. (Hi Sweetie, thanks for the Elly Project letter!)

here be elk )

Oh, I'm terribly envious! What an amazing sight to see--and regularly, apparently? Fantastic! I'm not sure I'd ever do anything but gawk at the world from my yard, to be honest. ;-)

Not to say that my local squirrels, chipmunks, etc., aren't beautiful and entertaining creatures--they are! But I do wish we had some of these guys too (although they'd barely fit behind the garage, come to that--lol!).

ETA: Yay! You got the card! I'm so glad! :-)

Elk are fairly common, though not as much so as deer. I occasionally see bears and, once, a mountain lion lay down in my driveway and just hung out for a while! This is a great spot for charismatic megafauna. Your state - which is where I grew up, by the way - trumps mine for forests, though. I'd take a deciduous over a coniferous forest any day.

The card was beautiful! Bright colors and animals are two of my favorite things too. I'm a sucker for a rainbow-striped zebra, for example. ;)

Wow! That's awesome

"Wildlife" outside my front door usually involves police and someone intoxicated. #citydweller

It is awesome, isn't it? :)

I've never lived in a city. There are a lot of things about it that would be more convenient than where I live, I'm sure!

Wow. That is a big fella, and look at that huge, pointy rack!

Better stay indoors... ;)

Oops, sorry for the late response!

Actually, later that evening, coming back from my walk, I had to go the long way around in order to avoid being between this guy and several females. Not a safe position to be in this time of the season!
