LJ and privacy

Facebook doesn't have a monopoly on doing funky things with privacy; LJ is at it too. For those not clicking through: you can now have LJ automatically cross-post your entries and comments, including comments made on other people's locked entries, to other sites. Sometimes comments reveal context even without the original entry being available. ( Read more... )

If you do start crossposting, or just migrate, I actually find it much more comfortable to read folks at DW than on LJ. For starters, there's that ad script that blocks the whole freaking page and says, "you can close this after the ad plays" (which doesn't usually play anything anyhow, and a little X does eventually appear, but it still vexes me). I even got one of those on the LJ login page!! On DW, I never have to wonder whether I'm going to get that stupidity when I click on a cut tag or a comments link.

And hey, if you follow my journal there, you don't have to click on one of my fake cut-tags to read an entry. ;-)

While it's nice that the frontpage doesn't have a really obnoxious ad, the fact that the "you messed up your password, try again" login screen has one of the screenblocking ones is really irritating. So much for the benefits of being a paid user.

I guess Adblock makes it so I am totally unaware of these?

I will be setting up an acct there, but didn't yet. And b/c I failed to grab my: "where cellio will be at Pennsic" info before leaving, I didn't go looking for you. Sorry we missed each other, and hope you didn't feel snubbed.

No snub felt -- I realized once there that I didn't know how to find you either. Next time we'll be more organized.
