SCA dance music: trip down memory lane

Dec 21, 2009 22:58

We have gotten to the SCA dance music in the digitize-the-music project. Last night, specifically, I got to the Tape of Dance, the tapes that accompanied a dance newsletter started by jducoeur, then edited by me and Dani, and then passed along to others.

Sure! Remind me before the next choir practice and I'll get them packed up for you.

I remember liking the Bryn Gwlad Music Guild's tracks, back in the day :-)

Yeah, I like them a lot too. Also Pandamonium, the Jongleurs, and the Waytes. The Waytes gave me the best laugh of the editing process; they sent longer recordings from which we clipped out the tracks, so we got some of the introductory coordination stuff, including the comment right before Sobria (which is in Locrian) that yes, that is a tritone and just play it. :-)

Later volumes were published on CD, but the first two were published on cassette tape and not (to my knowledge) ever re-issued on CD.

FYI, they're all available as MP3s on the web somewhere. I was just looking at it, actually, a couple weeks ago. ETA: http://ieee.uwaterloo.ca/praetzel/mp3-cd/ ETA: But, obviously, not as awesome as your new improved version. Copies? :D

I'm trying to track Eric down to offer the new ones for that collection. (You know what's missing from that web page? His email address. :-) ) In the meantime, I wonder if the easiest way to get them to you (and Arianna for that matter) would be for me to put a big ZIP file on my personal web space. (Can't do that longterm for bandwidth reasons, but for the half-dozen downloads likely to result from this post that'd be fine.)

I'll be back in touch, possibly tonight.

Thanks. Those do sound like a bit of hassle, but it's good to know about options. This probably won't be the only time I need to move a pile of bits.

I actually still use some of those tracks for dancing, and so would certainly enjoy improved versions thereof! Yay dance music.

I have fond memories of that music. Would love a copy if it's easy.
