We once had a new customer scheduled to go live on April 1st. I tried pointing out that not only was that a Saturday, but since we knew we were unlikely to meet the schedule, wouldn't the customer find that date suspicious?

(of course the deadline was missed and rescheduled three times.. I think we went live with them just over three months later)

We were told we had been acquired on April 1. I was not the only person who thought it was a joke, until the awkward silence went on for too long. Probably not the best timing, but I understand the appeal of "beginning of a quarter".

Yes, I'm pretty sure the beginning of the fiscal quarter had something to do with the timing as well. But really, convenient or not, you don't do something major on a weekend.
