We found Kinder eggs at a large (err) grocery store (Ladlaw's, or some name close to that). Alas, we failed to find the specific Kinder eggs of interest. She wanted the ones with the "Cars" toys inside. I suggested eBay (probably works better for the toy than the candy).
FWIW, I find "grocery store" vs. "supermarket" to be a matter of how open the family in question is to (acknowledging) change. I tend to refer to all of them as "grocery store", myself.
I think there was probably a shift; when "supermarkets" first showed up they were in fact something new and distinct, so they had a new name. Over time two things happened: the number of (old-style) grocery stores went way down, and there was some fuzzing of the line ("small supermarkets", "groceries" that carry more-exotic stuff that would normally require a trip to a "supermarket"). We'll probably see the same sort of shift with the "mega-marts" of today as they become more common. We won't need to distinguish them in the future.
