I assume that most of what he said wasn't really true, but I'm unclear on whether "I talked to the director about that" is. :-)

Synagogues have management just like corporations, so it follows that they can have bad management too.

very true but a committee? I say trial and error would work way better and be less time consuming!

Well, you see, there might be Important Aesthetic Issues to consider; the building committee (I assume there's a building committee) needs to have its chance to express its opinions about interior decoration. :-)

Or not. I don't know how these things work. But organizations that are largely volunteer-run can develop all sorts of weird quirks about what is and isn't important, as I assume you've seen in the SCA.
