As a child, I was horse-obsessed. Strangers knew me by my obsession. I read every book my library had to offer and had a substantial collection of my own at home. I taught myself to run like a horse. I loved Rainbow Brite but mostly watched for Starlite. I enjoyed my Little Ponies, but my preference went to Breyer models because they were more ( Read more... )

The funny thing is, The Special Unicorn is actually a sequel to the book The Unicorn Who Had No Horn, a book I was enraptured by when I was 5.

Ohhh yes, I love the Serendipity books. Illustrations by Robin ...James? Someone? I think. The funny thing is, my sister was also nostalgic for them some years back when she bought a bunch of hardcover (!!!) versions at a garage sale or swap meet. I seem to remember Morgan the unicorn. Heh...I should read those books. I never did get around to reading all of the ones she bought.

The ones I bought on eBay are hardcover, too. I fear the boy'd wear out the paperback ones too fast if he likes them. On Amazon, the only ones currently in print are the paperback version.

Tell him at least its unicorns. When my oldest was three my husband and I became masters at making up stories about Thomas the tank engine and ... Worf from Star Trek. He loved Worf... and every so night Thomas's driver was sick. And the Fat Controller (and every self respecting Brit my age and older only ever calls him that not the politically correct name he gets now ;)cos that was his original name - the Thin Controller, who wasn't as nice managed the 'other' railway )would ring Commander Sisko at DS9 and requested Worf comes to help out.

That... that is awesome. I can picture Worf driving around in Thomas. I love it.
