Steel cut oats are wonderful. Great flavor, McCann's are my favorite. And can be microwaved a lot quicker than boiling, if for a quick breakfast.
Ah always use oats to soak up the juice in my apple pies... or millet.
My little-old-lady landlady years ago said my WW-pumpernickle-fresh apple-gooseberry millet pie was good enough for the county fair. Old German-american lady went for the pumpernickle. She had given me the gooseberries, she knew where thye grew wild.
Now THEY have an interesting flavor! Kinda smokey and poopey... You're a mom, you know what i mean.
You're welcome! You can find a lot of variations on crock pot steel cut oats, too. I've also done a version with cocoa that tasted great, but it's not exactly photogenic to share on the blog!

Oats are just great to throw into anything with how they soak up juice and flavor.
