Movies for this semester

So, it's a new semester, which means a new set of movies for my movie night.  Talking with my housemate Pam, I think this semester's theme will be Girls Kicking Ass.  I'm sure there will be at least one Milla Jovovich film, but what should I round out the other four films with?  This is where I turn to you, my friends.  Please list your favorite

This could get interesting, especially if you look for films that don't conform to Mulvey's concept of the Male Gaze, because they're hard to find. I just went through my nostalgia 80's movie card catalog, and then leafed through my DVD shelf, and these are what I came up with. Note that all of them except for maybe the second half of Death Proof are male gaze movies

If you're gonna do Milla, there's always Ultra Violet.

My vote is for Barbarella though.

Yack! During my (ongoing) recuperation, I watched and enjoyed the Aeon Flux movie (for what it was), but not even judicious application of weed and Tramadol could make me watch more than ten minutes of Ultra Violet. :)

Hmm, girls kick ass. People have already mentioned Run Lola Run and Tank Girl, so:

- Aliens (num num)
- Bound

Hong Kong/Kung fu films have a wide variety of ass-kicking females, here's just a couple I can recommend specifically having seen them:

- Iron Monkey (Jean Wang Ching-Ying)
- Swordsman III: The East Is Red (Jean Wang Ching-Ying, Brigitte Lin)
- Bride With White Hair (Brigitte Lin)
- The Heroic Trio (Michelle Yeoh, Anita Mui and Maggie Cheung)

The last one in particular is pretty awesome, and I might consider it mandatory -- three awesome heroines team up against the bad guys, etc.
