I just finished the book "I Love The Illusion: The Life and Career of Agnes Moorehead". First off I must say that it really is a GREAT read. These are the kind of books that make me love biographies. It's informative but not boring. It's interesting but the author doesn't tell you a bunch of lies. For those of you who arn't farmiliar with who Agnes ( Read more... )

Agnes is absolutely astounding in the movie THE MAGNIFICENT AMBERSONS. Must see! Another performance of her's that makes me incredibly happy is her role in WHAT'S THE MATTER WITH HELEN?--which, if you haven't seen it, is a camp sensation. To tell you who she plays would ruin an absolutely DELICIOUS surprise.

It talks in great deal about The Magnificent Ambersons. Apparently Agnes' best scene was cut which was at the end. She was left alone in the poor house playing cards with women..alone like her. I believe it ends something like this in the final cut but in this one she *enjoys* living in the poor house.
And YES I saw "What's The Matter With Helen?" Shelley was something else in that

yes it does. She and Orson Welles were very good friends and worked together for many years in radio before Orson went to Hollywood and used Agnes in his films.

It does talk about Agnes' love life. She was married twice the first time it was for 19 years to a man named Jack Lee. And he was pretty abusive to her, verbally and physically. He was also an actor and he didn't care for the fact that she had better success than he.

It talks about the rumor about her and Debbie Reynolds and the author says that from all the research he has done he has found nothing substantial to lead him believe that Agnes was bisexual or a lesbian. I believe that Debbie and Agnes were really just very close friends. Paul Lynde who was Uncle Arthur on "Bewitched" was an alcoholic and when drunk he would spread vicious lies about his friends and co-workers on one of these incidents he talked about Agnes saying "oh yeah great lady, and SO talented but one of the great all-time Hollywood dykes". So I don't believe that those rumors are probably true.
