xibalba who is a saint and reads stories about a fandom she’s only heard me rambling about &
just4bri Ianto flipped the page of the book he was currently reading, which lay resting on the front desk of the phony tourist office that was the ´cover´ for Torchwood. He was currently waiting for a delivery to arrive.
Everyone had gone home already; Owen had a date with Tosh, no one saw that one coming. Gwen was still trying to go home early to keep up with the preparations for her wedding thing; which Ianto thought to be almost as fake as this office, considering she was obviously in love with Jack, something Ianto was happy not to think about. Though sometimes, he obviously failed.
He did wonder if Jack would actually make a proper move on Gwen if it weren’t for Rhys. Was Ianto really just the `tea boy` that kept him busy, as Owen had said when he had wanted to open the Rift?
Was that all he was to Jack? A part time fuck?
´Looking pensive.´ A voice came from the intercom and Ianto smiled to himself on hearing Jack’s voice.
"That can easily be called spying, sir." he pointed out, before smiling at the CCTV camera knowing Jack was currently watching.
´Can´t blame a man for having good taste when it comes to TV. I’m currently watching this show about this really handsome man, who looks extremely good in a suit, and works for some sort of secret organization named Torchwood´
"Sounds quite interesting." Ianto's smile turned into a grin, as he tried not to look back at the camera, though it was impossible. He could quite literally see Jack’s grin at the small blush growing on Ianto´s cheeks.
´It would be more interesting if the guy would start losing his jacket… his tie, the vest-´
Ianto chuckled softly and looked down at his suit before arching an eyebrow whilst looking at the camera. Reaching for the buttons of his suit jacket he unfastened them until he'd pulled them all open and removed his jacket in a rather slow, sensual way, left it hanging on the back of the chair that was to one side. His waistcoat followed put, with the same slow if not sensual movements.
´Wish you were here, it's getting better. I think, he might be about to lose all his clothes actually.´
"Is he now?" Ianto asked to the intercom whilst looking at the camera. He reached up to undo the knot of his tie before pulling it over his head and placed it on the back of the chair with care, while he listened to Jack making a pleasured if not expectant sound via intercom.
´It's a wait and see kind of situation, but I have enough confidence he will. I mean, no harm in thinking one would get, I mean, be lucky enough right?´
"I would suppose not." Ianto said with utter amusement and started to undo the upper buttons of his shirt, whilst looking at the camera with impossible impish eyes, until he heard the buzz coming from the door.
´Now that I think about it, I am not ´that´ hungry´ The voice from the intercom said and Ianto chuckled.
"I'll be down in a minute; I will make it up to you." He said looking at the camera with a knowing smile, before going to get the food.
After paying the delivery girl he frowned a little at the weather, there was an awful storm harassing the city. He gave her an apologetic look. "I am sorry you had to come out in this weather."
"My job Ianto." the girl smiled softly, though in a flirty way, and gave him his change.
"You work too much." She pointed out. Because, whenever she went there, he was there. Morning, noon and night, he was always there.
"Would you take a break if I, let’s say, asked you out? Someday?" She asked giving him hopeful eyes.
"Ah...." Ianto looked at her with slightly widened, though for sure, surprised eyes, before smiling kindly.
"Hmm, I know what comes next to that." She smiled and shrugged a little.
"I am just too busy," he said looking at her honestly; she was a cute girl. She arched an eyebrow at him before looking around the tourist office. "Oh, it's other stuff. I have a course I am doing, then the gym and...."
"You’re taken." She said with an amused smile. "It's ok, I should have guessed. I mean, a cute guy like you? No worries," she assured. "'Was worth the asking." She added and wrinkled her nose at the weather.
Ianto couldn't help making a face whilst pondering the idea of ´being taken´ and as he had many times before, when thinking about his relationship with Jack, he decided not to go there. It was for the best.
"Complicated huh?" The girl asked with a giggle whilst shaking her head, noticing the face.
"Would you like a ride?" He offered, because she was a couple blocks away and it was pouring, they'd sent her walking and she was wearing one of those plastic things covering her entirely.
"Hmm," she said whilst considering. "Nah, is ok. I’ll get soaked anyways," she shrugged. "I’ve got a couple more deliveries to do before going home." She said and took in a deep breath. "Do wish me luck." She beamed at him.
"Good luck," he nodded to her while she made a joking comment about not ending up in Kansas because of the harsh winds and the storm, which seemed to be getting worse. Ianto did pity her, walking around in this weather, he felt bad he had ordered out now. He'd known it was going to be stormy that night, he'd checked the weather reports that morning, as usual.
Sighing deeply to himself he locked the door and set the alarms before opening the hub door. Only then did he notice a shadow moving in the poorly illuminated room. His eyes widened and he left the food on the counter, so as not to drop it. He started chasing the black form until the thing slid through the bars that lead inside the hub itself.
Ianto was so busy with his chase he didn't notice Jack watching him with a thoughtful look, not until Jack reacted, came out of his office to rest both hands on the railings whilst looking down at him.
"What?" Jack asked with a frown before he headed downstairs too, because Ianto was running around after something. "WHAT?!" He asked, with a little more worry, as Ianto tried to get his hand within the heart of the rift. "Talk to me."
"We've got," Ianto said, then groaned and got up to hurry off after the black shadow as quickly as he could, following it down to the morgue room, "a minor security breach." He said when he noticed Jack had joined him, looking around, scanning the place.
"I hope you´re not superstitious." Jack laughed, noticing the black cat exploring the place as if it were his own already.
"Fact aside that I was the only one reading the old legends and folklore before we all thought the world was coming to an end, you might say I do believe in some things, just not in black cats." He said, whilst smiling at Jack.
"You should, but you would actually need a witch for the black cat to be dangerous, well actually a Carrionite. It's this sort of humanoid alien women, that can actually change their appearance to look human? They don't really use ´magic´ but the power of words, quite an ancient..."
"The cat is sniffing Owen´s sterilized boxes." Ianto pointed out matter of factly, looking at Jack who seemed to react at that.
"Alright, you go that way; I go this way, until one of us gets it." He pointed out. "Ready?"
"Ready." Ianto said with a secure nod. Even though they both moved carefully to try get the creature, the cat gingerly jumped to the upper floor and ran back to the heart of the hub, with Ianto and Jack chasing after it.
"Nonononono," Ianto said, and almost fell while trying to catch the cat before it climbed to Tosh´s workstation. Checking that everything was still alright and running, he winced when he noticed that a translation program had been disabled. He inwardly cursed. "Nothing too serious, Tosh will be pissed about the translation program though." he said to Jack, who was now trying to convince the cat to get out from under the coffee station.
"Alright, let’s try a bribe." Jack said and looked back at Ianto.
"I got it," Ianto said and moved over to the fridge to find a ham and cheese sandwich, from which he got a bit of ham and placed it on the floor in front of the hissing animal. "´s alright, it's food." He said in a soothing voice, and sat at a safe distance.
"I guess it’s too scared to eat." Jack said with a frown, because the cat kept on hissing at them both from where it had hidden, in a small compartment under the coffee station.
"Let´s give it time," Ianto said patiently and looked from the cat to Jack, who was currently looking at him.
"You mean sit here until he decides to come out?"
"Got a better idea as to how to get it out from there, without getting yourself scratched thoroughly? So we don't have to explain scratches to Owen, only for him to still assume what we both know he will assume, despite any plausible reason we have to explain the injures you would be wearing?" He asked and looked at Jack thinking deeply. "I´ll go get the food." Ianto offered. "You keep an eye on him."
"Alright," Jack agreed because it was better to keep an eye on the cat before it went out and about wandering around the hub, causing mischief, with out actually knowing he could be causing real damage. "But we both know I`ve been scratched before, and not thanks to a cat!" He called out with a grin, whilst recalling that one time with dreamy eyes as he allowed himself to get lost in the memories.
"Alright," Ianto said with a chuckle and stood up slowly, so as not to scare the animal further. He went to get the packages of food whilst Jack settled there, talking to the furry creature with a calm, soothing voice. Was he talking to it about cat people?
Ianto shook his head at that and crossed the doors that lead to the hallway, and eventually to the office.
Getting the food he realized it was cold now. Heading back to the hub after making sure he’d closed the door behind he went up to where the coffee station was located and sat on the floor close to Jack. "It is cold," he said quietly and opened one of the containers. "Well, warm." He corrected himself, and reached out to open the fridge. He took out a couple bottles of beer and after opening them, handed one to Jack who took a swig and placed it next to him.
"Trust me, this is gourmet compared to some things I've eaten. Even if it is only warm." Jack gave Ianto one of his dashing smiles, before taking a bite of his food. "I love this place." He commented, regarding the food place and took another mouthful.
"It is quite good, I agree." Ianto said and started eating his share too, before offering some to Jack, knowing he liked that particular kind of mushrooms. Jack leant forward and ate it with an almost unbelievable familiarity and extreme confidence. They often exchanged food when alone; it was a natural habit now.
"So what was that about?" Jack asked looking from the furry creature who had gone quiet, to Ianto, whilst trying to sound casual.
"What was what?"
"You got asked out on a date." He pointed out.
Raising an eyebrow slightly, Ianto shrugged his shoulders a little bit and nodded. "I was." He said simply, before he focused on the contents of his tray.
"That’s all?"
"What more could there be?" Ianto asked looking up at Jack, curious now as to where he was heading with this conversation.
"I don’t know, I was wondering why you said no, the girl’s quite cute." Jack pointed out in an aloof way, while he resumed eating his dinner.
"Should I have said yes?" Ianto asked, glancing up with out really raising his head as he looked at Jack enquiringly.
"No, well," Jack scratched the back of his neck and frowned. "I guess."
"You guess I should have accepted it?" Ianto pushed the topic further, because now that Jack had gotten himself in to this sort of conversation, he was curious as to what he would say.
"Why didn’t you?" Jack asked, reaching for his beer before looking to the side, as the cat made it out of his hiding place to eat the ham that Ianto had left on the floor close to him.
"It didn’t feel right." Ianto said and took another forkful, before resting his tray over his thigh to reach for his beer. "Why are you so interested to know?"
"I don’t know, I guess we never really did this, talk about this…" Jack pointed out, looking at Ianto with intense eyes before frowning a little. "Us." He added.
"Is there an ´Us´?" Ianto asked, and now he did raise his head to look Jack in the eye, even when his voice tried to sound nonchalant, the surprise could be read on it.
"Well, I thought there was." Jack said and frowned a little whilst thinking things over. "Didn’t you? Is it all me? Am I reading things the wrong way? You want to go back dating girls? Us plus dating girls?" He frowned and shook his head with a little bit of puzzlement and then frowned curiously when Ianto chuckled. "What?"
"Nothing, I just never imagined you putting things this way." Ianto confessed and smiled softly at Jack, the softer look lingering in his eyes before he felt something crawling onto his lap. Looking down he noticed the black cat start to sniff his food, so Ianto held a bit on his palm, the cat instantly devoured it before putting his head into the tray to get some more. Ianto lowered the tray enough for the cat to have as much as he wanted, because it was organic food. He looked up at Jack who seemed to be in turn to give him a ´look´ "What?" Ianto asked with a smile.
"I love you."
"I know," Ianto looked at Jack quite surprised he’d said that, because he hadn't been expecting it. But Ianto smiled softly at him, whilst reaching his hand out to rest over Jack’s thigh to find it covered by Jack’s own.
"No, I don’t think you do. I know what I come across like, I am terrible, I am a complete flirt, I am checking out everyone all the time, making witty remarks…" he said, making a knowing, sheepish face before smiling. "But I love you; I do not want to share you. Do you think we could come to some sort of agreement?" He asked, squeezing Ianto´s hand still resting on his thigh.
"Are you, asking?" Ianto stammered a little bit, as he looked at Jack with a serious frown.
"I ´love´ it when you stammer." Jack flashed a wide grin whilst nodding. "I do and yes, before you ask, I am sure." He added. "So what do you say? Yes? No? Jack I’ll think about it, you´re insane?"
"I just, I just didn’t think..." Ianto stammered, and blushed realizing he was still doing that. "I thought you might be in love with someone else." He admitted.
"There were many, but, currently just one." Jack said seriously. "I can't die Ianto; I don't know how things will go from here on. I can't promise to spend the rest of my life with you, as romantic as that might sound. Well I could, but I'd be lying and you do have a thing for noticing when I am lying." He growled at Ianto in a playful manner as if annoyed at that fact, then smiled when Ianto chuckled.
"I didn’t mean that. I meant, I meant Gwen." Ianto bit his lower lip a little, whilst studying Jack’s reactions.
"Hmm, I care deeply about her, when we met I thought there could be something there." He admitted.
"But there was Rhys," Ianto pointed out.
"Yeah, but it wasn’t that. I rarely ever cared about boyfriends or fiancé’s for that matter, or husbands. I just couldn’t help falling in love with you. Everything else, everyone else, I am just not interested anymore. Quite odd, but I have had that happen a couple times." He admitted, cocking his head to the side. "Seems like hardly anything or anyone can resist you either." He pointed out, indicating the cat who had now settled on Ianto´s lap for a nap.
"Can I have you all to myself?" Jack asked, getting Ianto´s attention back, because he had gotten distracted with the cat. Jack’s eyes were expectant as Ianto locked eyes with him.
"You already do," Ianto said softly and shifted as closer as he could manage with out disturbing the cat, who complained when he moved to kiss Jack on the lips. "You always did, even though I hate to admit it." He added. "I’m so easy when it comes to you."
"And I love that," Jack grinned, brushing his thumb over Ianto´s cheek bone.
"I know you do," Ianto chuckled.
"Perfect. Now that this is talked out, I need you to find another suitable place to order organic food from, because we’re most definitely not ordering from here again. Unless I get to tell that girl your arse is mine." He said possessively. "Along with the rest of your body of course." He grinned.
"You would, wouldn’t you?"
"Damn right I would! She’s always checking you out, I should know, because I am always checking you out too." He pointed out with a laugh. "But now that you've tamed the beast, let´s go get more comfortable shall we? Have a hot shower, watch a movie, go to bed?"
"What should we do with…" Ianto said and looked at the cat with a small thoughtful frown. "Salem?" He smiled and the cat purred, he seemed to like the name.
"The cat’s named now. You do know we can’t keep it right? The pterodactyl would have it for brunch."
"Got to love Torchwood’s logic, you can keep Weevils, aliens of all sorts and pterodactyls, but not a cat." Ianto laughed and shook his head. "No, I was thinking more along the lines of giving it over to my mum." He added and patted the cat’s head. "She loves cats." He added and got up slowly, grabbing Jack’s hand when he offered.
"Put that way, it is strange," Jack agreed, then smiled when Ianto said he was going to give the cat over to his mother. "Will I ever meet her?"
"Eh, that would be complicated, but I am positive we can think of something plausible enough."
Jack chuckled and put the things in the sink before leading the way to his room. After several remarks, he had relented and put a TV with a DVD player down there for when they just cuddled or wanted to kill time.
"Jack," Ianto called out from behind as he let the cat into Jack’s office when they got there.
"Hmm?"
Ianto looked at Jack, who was poking his head out of the hole that lead to the bedroom, to look at him. "I love you too." Jack smiled and with that Ianto felt like melting at the look his lover gave him, whilst he replied with an ´I know'. Ianto followed him downstairs for their nightly cuddling session, followed by a sure to be interrupted movie, and some serious making out with probably, much more to come.
The End ~
