RIP, David Eddings

I won't claim that his books were profound, or anything, but I've always very much enjoyed the worlds of the Belgariad/Mallorean and the Elenium/Tamuli.

:-O

I hadn't heard! Oh no!

He wrote one of my favorite books of all time (The Redemption of Althalus).

I like that one, too. I've not read the most recent series though.

I just saw the news via another of my f-list. I have no shame in saying that I really enjoyed his work and that I'll miss him in this world.

*nods* He (with his wife, mostly) told a good story. I have a whole shelf-full of their work.

That is sad, isn't it. I hadn't realized his wife died in '07.

Polgara and Zakath are two of my favorite fantasy characters.
The Belgariad/Mallorean was my first fantasy series.

I read LotR earlier, but was reading the Belgariad by about the time book 3 came out, IIRC. And then all the rest as they were published, up to the last series which I haven't actually read (too many other demands on my time).

The Belgariad have always been a particular favorite. They don't have the canned feeling that his later stuff started to have a bit of. RIP.

*nods* That's part of why I never have acquired the final series; didn't want to be disappointed. One of these days, maybe.
