Progress, sort of

One of next week's classes is prepped, and I've finished doing the reading for the other although I still need to decide what we're going to do for about an hour and a half of it. What I want is some sort of brainstorming exercise, I think. Also reassured a student that although a lot of the other students in that class have some background in ( Read more... )

One exercise that I used (although not quite as successfully due to the reading) was to have the class break into groups of 2, then join another group to make 4, then I split them some into groups of 6 so they would change viewpoints (I always kept the pairs of 2 together), then groups of 8 - then everyone had to present their ideas and thoughts to the class.

Since I was teaching a 3 credit class in one night, we had time for longer exercises.

Another one that I did was something that I learned in church one day. I had everyone think of one word to answer the question. They had to write it down as I didn't want to hear (they already said my word). Then I went around the room and everyone had to say their word. It started a nice dialog.

I'm not sure if either of these work for you.
