I turned on the ruler in Word and then just eyeballed it to be about 1/2" x 3/4".
Mine were actually a little bit smaller than I might have liked, but I decided having a border of color around the cover image was okay; with the gilded edges they look kind of like fancy leatherbound books with inset images.
i recently gave my parents some doll house books for their mini xmas tree. they downsized to an 18" tree a couple years back and mom hasnt found many ornaments for it. since both my parents are big readers, i dug out my dollhouse stuff and pulled out a couple books. they were the kind that had just blank covers in different colors, but had real paper pages. even for being so little. i just tied a piece of thread around the spine of the book, then tied a bigger loop to hang on the tree. it never occurred to me to glue picture covers on them!
*nods* Yes, those blank dollhouse books were what I used as the base for the ornaments. The overall idea I borrowed from someone else's website; I was googling for book ornaments and found several places with directions on how to make them yourself using various methods, and this one seemed like an approach I could manage pretty well.
