The past week - heck, for years, really - I've been angry at what's going on in the world around me. Most recently it's been the fact that one of Chick-Fil-A's owners has given large sums of money to anti-gay organizations, including actual hate groups, but there has also been the anti-gay-marriage legislation passed in my state and others, the ( Read more... )

I can't claim to be producing viable solutions, really. I mean, I have ideas of what might improve the situation for various problems, but it's not like I have the ability to make those ideas reality... :-(

I was just talking about this last night... so, possibly at the same time. I'm so TIRED of being made to feel like I'm too demanding for wanting these things. Am considering either joining an activist group or serious life changes like starting my own business/org.

*nods* I said in the OP that maybe I haven't entirely grown up yet, since I still think things ought to be fair; I decided later that I don't WANT to grow up, if it means giving up on that.

The CFA thing is complicated for me, because a lot of it is keying into something emotional from my past. I've lived too much of my life in communities where to be part of that group I had to believe and say the "acceptable" things to be part of the community. And where being part of the community was literally necessary to survival. I know that's not what's going on here, but in the back of my head it's where I'm stuck ( ... )

My thing is... if a business, or its owner-thus-representative, makes a public point about its political leanings and where it's donating money, then yes, I am going to judge them accordingly and do business with them or not accordingly. They're totally allowed to say what they believe and give money as they wish, BUT if anyone's openly giving money to hate groups, I am absolutely not going to do business with them and I will make that fact and the reason public too. Anyone giving money to hate groups is NOT part of any community I wish to be a part of, and it doesn't matter what kind of hate group ( ... )
