Today I gave away books

I gave away on the order of, oh, 200-300 books today. About 3/4 of the nonfiction went, very little of the fiction (one grad student commented that if zie took fiction, zie will read it ahead of the stuff that is necessary, so was refraining). I have one more colleague who wanted to look over whatever was left, so hopefully that person will have ( Read more... )

I'd definitely trade! We walked Juno from 10-11 this morning, and I was *very* sweaty by the end of that. Took water along and gave her some a couple of times, for the first time this season.

I need to clear out stuff from my study, and then paint it. Actually we need to paint the entire interior of the house, and I need to do something about window treatments - we still have up pretty much what was here when we bought the house four years ago, and some of it is UGLY. Just that after a while you don't notice, you know?

Maybe also do some sewing. I have a lot of fabric hanging around.

And keep applying for jobs - probably see about signing up with a temp agency next week (barf).

ATM it looks like I probably *will* have time between finishing at the uni and doing something else... the question is how long. I don't *want* it to be all that long, for financial reasons. Hence the temping idea.

Painting is not that difficult, my sis reminds/assures me. It's only a PITA for the office b/c there's so much crap (books, old files, miscellaneous junk) that has never really been dealt with since the move, plus being an old house there's some minor work that needs to be done on the walls/ceiling before painting; the joints between the wallboard are cracking, for instance. Nothing really hard to repair from what I can tell, but not stuff I've actually done before.

Well good for you for actually checking with the Library what they would like. Most of my departing academics just turn up when I'm not there with a box of junk, leaving me the headache of what to do with the unwanted stuff.

(But then, you're doing as you hope in future to be done by... ;-) )

Oh, totally doing as I'd want to be done by! I mean, they do hold book sales at the library so if I donated unwanted stuff, I expect that's where it would end up, but the $$ would mean more to the undergrad club.

When I took a course on collection management, we discussed the whole issue of donations at some length. *g*
