What made you decide to become a librarian?

It was more realizing that I was a librarian than deciding to become one. I've been involved with working and volunteering at libraries since I was in high school. My very first job was at the Swarthmore College library being a part time receptionist but behind the scenes of the library, I loved it.

It wasn't until I came back from New Zealand and really started thinking about what I wanted that I put together, oh, I'm a librarian. Then I did some research and figured out that to do the kind of library job I wanted to do required a masters and I went and got one.

Do you remember what book you were most obsessed with at age 12? (You won't be surprised to find out mine was Stephen King's The Stand). Or any age during your junior high school years, really.

I've been thinking on this and as near as I can remember Paul Creswick's Robin Hood was one of them. 5th grade and middle school was when I had my cowboy, biography stage so lots of books about the west. I read Larry McMurtry who was good but not great. I liked Louis L'Amour far better and watch The Young Riders. I'm pretty sure that was also when I first read The Once and Future King, which is one of my utterly favorite books. Also when I did my first read of The Lord of the Rings, I only got up to partway through the Two Towers before I lost the book. Even then my favorite characters were Merry and Pippin and the Ents.

Oh and I was wondering, I would love to help with the cooking or bring anything for Thanksgiving. Any requests?

I am not even a little surprised Robin Hood was on your list! Interesting that the Once and Future King was though because I know how much you love that book. And like, The Stand is probably the book I have reread the most in my life and I was in the 6th grade when I read it for the first time, so it is kind of cool to look back and see that we both have favorites that go back that far ( ... )
