There's a reason I was wary about having someone help me out and it was kind of born out when she first sorted the books alphabetically by author's first name. Its been fixed now and she's moving through, but not how I wanted to start my day ( Read more... )

Hey, someone else who doesn't like Snape. I just don't get all the fangirling. He's got secrets, sure, but he's a total ass.

Same thing with Quaritch, that relentless bigot. If he was acting strictly on orders I might be able to muster some sympathy for him, but he does a lot of that shit of his own accord and doesn't care who he destroys in the process.

Yes, I remember there were some women I went to college with who had a Snape/Rickman fan club and I just never got it. I'm far more interested in the more nuanced characters like Remus and Sirius, who have a lot of things in their way too but they're not as petty or mean just cause.

Oh yes, I don't like Quaritch, but I think he could have been just more than he was. That's why I like seeing what's happening in the Bar with the Avatar characters as they actually get some depth.

Ugh, yes, Snape. I just...I don't care about his secrets. I don't care about his ~redemption~; I care about the fact that he's a shitty, awful teacher who could, and probably does, do real damage to his students.

Hah, yes, Quaritch. He could have been so interesting in screen! But, no, Cameron doesn't do complicated.

I was semi-sympathetic to Trammel for a bit. But when he was holding the kids as leverage against Jack? No, no, no.

Yes, maybe if there had been other PoVs or things had built up more to make us care, but from the start, he and Draco are the bullies. That's what stuck with me and since I've had teachers like him, his redemption and all just isn't enough for me to care about him.

Trammel, that's his name. I've been feeling like my brain hasn't woken up at all today. That's why I decided that I didn't need to find names, people would figure them out.

Yep. Draco I feel more sympathetic to, but Snape? He's an adult. There is no excuse for his behaviour to children.

Me'n'Ali'n'Karen were talking about our canons the other day. Otherwise I'd call him 'Shrapnel', because that's what I keep on hearing *g* You're right, though, he's not really a good foil for Carl and Jack.

I think the African rebel leader is a much better foil. Since that's where the tension was with the worry about the children and keeping everyone safe. Trammel was just a toady same thing with the UN guy.

Yes, I grew to find Draco intriguing and when Di was really at her stride with him, it was interesting to see how he grew. Since his choices were a mixture of pressure from family and also his own major issues with Harry. He can grow out of it, Snape should have grown out of it.
