I like to stick as close to canon as possible within the boundries of the story. If that makes any sense,,, like if the story has Gibbs as the Director, then some things are going to be different. But we also have to admit that NCIS writers have confused canon to the point of making it very confusing at times. Like the fact that Gibbs and Fornell should have known each other in the first epi "Yankee White" and they didn't. And that Gibb's flask changed had what was engraved on it between seasons,,, and a few other things. So working within the limits of the show writers,,, I still like to go with canon,,, unless it is wrong.
