That's right, it's time for me to write a post that isn't about YA novels for once (and I hear some cheers from my friends list.) A combination of the stupid Prop 8 supporters getting a stay on the ban so there won't be any gay marriages in California until December plus a self inducedrepeat of my rage at the man that runs the country (I try to

I shared the link for the Disney documentary with my brother, he shared it with my mom, and we had a good "OH GOD I KNOW, I NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT IT THAT WAY" conversation on the phone yesterday. ^^ I was never a hardcore Disney fan (I was mainly a Trekkie as a child), but my brother and I had a few Disney sing-along videotapes that included some of the particularly racist bits (the Siamese cats song, "I Wanna Be Like You," etc.). I know I was aware that the portrayal of Native Americans in Peter Pan was fucked up (my kindergarten teacher taught us about actual Native American cultures before I really encountered the stereotypes), but I don't think I picked up on the other things until years later.

I was a huge Disney fan growing up. The first film I saw as a kid at the cinema was Aladdin when I was about 3, it's one of the earliest memories I have of my life. I didn't really rediscover my Disney love until I was at uni so I could appreciate them on one level and just be really embarrassed on another. That documentary pointed out things so me even I didn't realise before, like the limited portrayals of Latinos, usually as dogs. I'd like to say Disney have gotten better with race because The Princess and the Frog actually did a good job and had the most feminist friendly princess (although having her spend a majority of the film as a frog is a bit suspect) but then I want to open the can of worms regarding Disney and sexism and that's a whole new shitbang!

Yes, PLEASE DO review the crappier LKH books! Pisses me off that this woman can get her utter worthless shit published, but so many good writers are ignored.

When I am having psuedoscience cranky moments I go watch some James Randi - he's a funny wise old man. His homeopathy vid is classic.

Also, thunderfoot on youtube for some wonderful independent science vids, humor and roasting of psuedoscience. For those moments when I am really angry there are lots of George Carlin clips on Youtube.
This is amongst my favorite things ever on Youtube, I love the net!

And I love the pharyngula blog, but I am sure you are aware of it.
Oh and TED talks, oh the talk on redwood canopy research is just - another world entirely, but I recommend wandering and listening organically.
