Julie told me yesterday that Psycho Susan (Ms. Hyde) called her on Christmas to beg to be let back into the show. But she just wanted to do the Richard III scene. Julie said no, of course, and Susan asked why. I think Susan may be some kind of textbook narcissist--she honestly didn't think she'd done anything wrong, or worth staying fired for. Hmmm... "Rank and experience" being more important than talent and ability -- by any chance is Susan an Equity member? Unions, after all, are deadset against meritocracy... :)

She is, sadly, and a very poor representative of it. I've never encountered an actor spewing the BS she does, and I've worked with and directed many Equity actors.

I was a union member (not by choice!) when I worked at Dow Jones, and never spouted the equivalent BS either. Of course, my talents got me through just fine there. My guess is you've worked with, mostly, talented actors who happen to be Equity members.

Of course. Equity members are generally the first to deny any correlation between talent and Equity status. Equity membership is supposed to guarantee *professonalism* in exchange for decent treatment, not talent, and mostly it does (the exceptions being Psycho Susan and Joe-Who-Couldn't-Learn-His-Lines from Dik and Jayne).
