Ah, thanks. I have been trying to decide whether to risk Ready Player One since someone have it a very ambiguous recommendation :)

I highly recommend NK Jemisin's "The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms".

It's less doom-laden than The Fifth Season, and still very good.
